Holistic Approach
I consider both the parents' comfort level and the individual needs of each child when it comes to sleep strategies. Everyone is unique and not every sleep issue is entirely the same as another. Therefore, I take into account the health background of the child and parents, personality, development, nutritional intake, daily activities, and much more because they all play a huge role in sleep quality. You will learn a lot about yourself and your little one during the process and it's beautiful.
About Me
My name is Kayja Colwell
I’m a wife, mother, and children’s sleep consultant with a background in child care and child education. My journey into becoming a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant actually began, funny enough, when I was fully against any form of sleep training. I was doing everything but sleep training to get my baby to sleep. It got to a point where I had to rock her, while lunging, WHILE nursing for a minimum of 20 minutes until she’d fall asleep. And you guessed it, she only slept for max 40 minutes at a time and so I had to restart the process again. My mental, physical and emotional health were depleting. I asked other professionals and moms in the cosleeping, and anti-sleep training groups and they all left me hopeless, except one person who went through what I did and told me about their successful experience with a sleep consultant. I researched heavily on the effects of sleep training and to my surprise, I found hope because it’s actually healthy and beneficial for the whole family. (I have tons of resources put together that I can share in my blog)
I hired that same sleep consultant and thought she must be crazy to tell me that my baby can be placed down fully awake and fall asleep on her own. But miracles are real! Now I have peace, no more anxiety around naptime or bedtime, I have a beautiful relationship with not only my daughter but with others as well now that I’m doing much better, and my little girl is healthy and happy.
This inspired me to launch Building Ez Dreamers so I can help parents and their little ones find the peace of mind that my family was able to achieve.
Why I'm Different
As a holistic pediatric sleep consultant, my approach sets me apart from traditional sleep consultants by offering comprehensive, personalized support that goes beyond just addressing immediate sleep issues. Unlike conventional consultants who often provide only short-term, two-week packages, I also offer long-term support designed to guide families through the entire sleep journey, from newborn to preschool age, adapting to each child's evolving needs.
1
Beyond Sleep: Holistic Child Development
What truly sets my holistic approach apart is the recognition that sleep is deeply connected to other aspects of a child’s life. I provide guidance not only on sleep but also on critical areas such as breastfeeding, potty training, and nutritional intake, which significantly impact sleep quality. Whether it’s aligning breastfeeding routines with sleep, integrating potty training into bedtime without disruptions, or adjusting your child’s diet to promote restful nights, my comprehensive support addresses the main factors that influence sleep.
4
Flexible Support Options
While my primary focus is on providing long-term, ongoing support, I also offer two-week packages for families seeking immediate solutions to specific sleep challenges. These shorter packages are designed to give you a concentrated burst of support, helping to resolve pressing issues quickly. However, I recognize that sleep is an evolving process, and my long-term packages are crafted to provide continuous guidance, helping you navigate not just immediate concerns but also future challenges like developmental milestones, sickness, and lifestyle changes.
2
Support Through Every Stage
Sleep is not a one-time fix but a continuous journey influenced by numerous factors throughout a child's early years. Whether you are a first-time parent or have previous experience, the first year of a baby’s life can be incredibly challenging, with unique sleep patterns, feeding needs, and developmental milestones that often lead to unpredictable and exhausting nights. My long-term packages provide ongoing, adaptable support during these early months when sleep feels elusive, offering personalized guidance and reassurance as you navigate the ups and downs.
For older toddlers and preschoolers, sleep challenges often shift but remain complex. From transitioning to a big kid bed to managing fears, anxieties, and growing independence, my holistic approach provides tailored strategies that respect your child’s pace. I’m there to support you through every sleep regression, daycare transition, illness, or travel disruption, ensuring a smoother path to sustainable, healthy sleep habits.
3
Individualized Evaluation and Support
Each sleep challenge is unique, even when it looks similar to another. My approach involves a thorough evaluation that considers your child’s medical history, nutritional intake, developmental milestones, personality, sleep environment, and overall atmosphere. This comprehensive assessment allows me to identify the root causes of sleep disturbances and craft personalized solutions that address the whole child, not just the symptoms. I recognize that what works for one child may not work for another, making it crucial to look beyond surface-level issues to truly understand your child's needs.
5
A Lasting, Adaptable Solution
Unlike traditional sleep consultants who often provide quick, short-term fixes, my holistic, long-term approach is designed to grow with your child, providing a sustainable and adaptable solution that nurtures healthy sleep habits. I am committed to offering continuous support that addresses not just sleep but your child’s overall development and well-being, giving you peace of mind and consistent progress over time. With my guidance, you receive a truly individualized, evolving strategy that supports your child and your family, ensuring that you are never alone in your journey to better sleep.
