Daylight Savings Time is upon us once again! This year, it will likely have a much bigger impact due to the fact that Halloween and DST fell on the same weekend. My kids sure had fun going around the block with their friends and consuming as much candy as they could before I noticed…so sneaky! I may have had a few of their treats once they fell asleep…
Although I was totally prepared for the time change, I was a bit disappointed this morning when I heard their little voices and the clock read 6:00am. We don’t usually don’t get up until we see “Magic 7”!
Here’s a tip that may help get you through the day:
Split the difference! After you’ve set your clocks back, move all nap times and bedtimes backwards exactly 30 minutes. Let’s say your child normally goes to bed at 7:00 and wakes up at 7:00am. So if naptime was at 9:30am before the time change, put them down at 9:00am. This will feel like 10:00am for your child, so don’t be surprised if he seems a little grumpy! The same goes for their afternoon nap(s), and your child’s bedtime will now be at 6:30pm instead of 7:00pm. If you can, do this until Wednesday, which will give your child’s body 4 days to adjust to the time change. On Thursday, move all nap times and bedtimes to the correct time on the clock again.
